BATTLE GROUND — Eugene H. Lahr, 69, 7315 Greenview Drive, Battle Ground, died Thursday, June 17, 1999, in Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis. He had been suffering from cancer. He had been in hospice care at the home of his stepsons in Zionsville where he had been residing with his wife, Kay, since May 5. He had been in ill health since September 1997. Born Aug. 1, 1929 in Lafayette, he graduated from Jefferson High School in 1947 and attended Purdue University. He married Kay Walter of Covington in 1981, who survives. He was a well-known automobile dealer in the communities of Lafayette, Delphi, and Monticello from 1950 until 1986. After retiring from his General Motors dealerships, he returned to the Lafayette community where he became involved in local real estate. He was a creative entrepreneur in land acquisition and building construction. In the late 1980s he built and developed the Lahr building of Lafayette and Brick 'n' Wood subdivision as the major stockholder. He owned and managed other business enterprises in both Indianapolis and Marion. He had been retired from active business pursuits for the past several years and was an active boating and golfing enthusiast in both Michigan and Florida. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, the Indiana and the National Auto Dealers Associations, Lafayette Elks, Lafayette Country Club, and the John Purdue Club. Survivors, besides his wife, include: daughter, Barbara Henderson, Brownsburg; son, Bruce Lahr, Indianapolis; step-daughter, Cindy Nakarado, Indianapolis; step-sons Tony and Scott Walter, both of Zionsville; sister, Betty Greenwood; and brother, David Lahr, both of Lafayette; and two grandsons. He was preceded in death by brother, Keith Lahr in 1997. Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Monday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel with the Rev. Dale Miller officiating.
