James W. Lake, 69, a farmer residing on a farm one mile north of Hillsboro for several years, succumbed to a heart attack at his home, Wednesday morning at 8:10 o'clock.  Mr. Lake had been in his usual health until Wednesday morning when he complained of a pain in his chest.  He has been in declining health for the past 5 years, having had his leg amputated due to an injury suffered at that time.

He was born in Stockwell, in Tippecanoe County on July 24, 1873, the son of James and Phoebe Beckhorn Lake.  On October 15, 1897, he was married to Dora A. Meadows, and they went to housekeeping in Tippecanoe County.

He had been engaged in farming all his life and he and his wife were residents of Fountain County for the past 35 years.  He was a member of the United Brethren Church and was the last survivor of his family, having been preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.

Survivors are the widow and one son, Luther D. Lake of Downer Grove, Ill and three grandsons.

Hillsboro June 2 – A farmer residing in this community the past 35 years, James W. Lake, 69, died at 8:15 am. Wednesday at his home following a heart attack.  He was born near Stockwell in Tippecanoe County, Indiana on July 24, 1873, the son of James and Phoebe Beckburn Lake.  On October 15, 1897 he was married to Dora A. Meadows.  Surviving are the widow and a son, Luther D. Lake of Downers Grove, Ill and three grandsons. Two sisters and two brothers preceded him in death.  He was the last member of his family. – 1943
