Freeman A. Leas, age 55, a certified public accountant of 6061 Crow's Nest Dr., Indianapolis, brother of Mrs. Gordon (Mary Ellen) Phillips of Veedersburg Rt., died Saturday night, Nov. 16, in the Lilly Clinic of the Marion County General Hospital. Mr. Leas was well-known in the Covington community and throughout Fountain County as he had served as a public accountant for several of the local business firm. Born Aug. 20, 1908 near Veedersburg, he was the son of Elmer E. and Hulda Wildman Leas. He attended county schools and graduated from Crawfordsville high school in 1926. Mr. Leas attended Wabash College and had resided in Indianapolis since his graduation in 1929 from the Indiana University School of Business. He lived at 6061 Crow's Nest Dr., and had operated his own certified public accountant office at 1119 N. Delaware St., Indianapolis, since 1938. He was a graduate of the International Accountant Association in 1930, a member of the Indiana Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Indiana University Alumni Association, Theta Chi society fraternity, Ancient Landmarks Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Murat Shrine, Elks Lodge No. 13, Optimist Club, and the Athenaeum and Monument Chapter of OES, of which he was a past worthy patron. Mr. Leas also was a former director of the Bowes-Seal Corp., and a former owner of the Courier Truck Line. He was a member of the St. George Syrian Orthodox Church. Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Mary Ann Kafoure Leas; two daughters, Mrs. Cynthia M. Lewis and Miss Honey Leas; a son, Freeman E. Leas, all of Indianapolis; a sister, Mrs. Gordon (Mary Ellen) Phillips of Veedersburg Rt. 2; five grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mrs. Lucile Davidson; and a brother, Forrest Leas. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, at the Flanner and Buchanan Broad Ripple Mortuary and at 2 p.m. at the St. George Syrian Orthodox Church, Indianapolis. Interment was in the Washington Park North Mausoleum.  --typed by Walt W
