T. L. Stilwell received a letter from G. W. Boyd yesterday evening from Covington in which he stated that James Long, of that place, committed suicide yesterday morning by shooting himself through the head. He was a justice of the peace and a prominent citizen. Mr. Long was a soldier, having served through the war in the Tenth, Indiana.

Covington, Ind., Feb. 7—James Long, an old soldier, shot himself in his office Tuesday morning. He left a note addressed to his wife stating that he had performed an official act which his conscience approved, but could not bear the displeasure of the public.
