Mrs. Minnie Lowe, who would have celebrated her 103rd birthday on Nov. 21, died at 4:45 a.m. Thursday (Sept. 24, 1970) at Williamsport Community Hospital. She had been a patient at the hospital since Monday and seriously ill since last Saturday. Mrs. Lowe had been living in Attica, Inc., with her daughter, Mrs. Goldie Gilmore, since last November. Before that she maintained her own home in Independence, Ind. On the celebration of her 100th birthday in 1967, Mrs. Lowe attributed her long life to, "The grace of the good Lord and to eating sensibly," She suggested all people would live longer if they would leave the table just a little bit hungry. She was reared in Covington and in the Bend neighborhood north of the town. She was married to George W. Lowe on Oct. 4, 1888 in Danville. The couple lived on a farm in Davis Township where he was engaged in farming. Mr. Lowe died in 1947 and in 1950, Mrs. Lowe moved to Independence. Mrs. Lowe was a member of the United Methodist Church of Covington. However, in later years she was active in the E. U. B. Church in Independence. She also was a member of the Gessie Royal Neighbors Lodge. Surviving besides her daughter is a son, Roy M., of Ava, Mo., four granddaughters and seven great-grandchildren. A son, a daughter and nine brothers and sisters preceded her in death. Friends will be received at the DeSutter Funeral Home in Attica after 5 p.m. Friday. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the DeSutter Chapel with the Rev. Paul Meyer officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Attica.  --Typed by Debby Masterson.

Mrs. Minnie Lowe, 102, Independence, died 4:45 a.m. Thursday at Community Hospital, Williamsport, where she had been a patient since Monday. She had been seriously ill since Saturday. One of the community's oldest residents, she had led an active life, maintaining her own home and doing her own housework until last November when she came to Attica to live in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Goldie Gilmore. She was born near Coal Creek in Fountain County on Nov. 21, 1867, the daughter of George and Mary Diffenderfer Van Dorn. she had been a resident of Independence since 1950 and before that had lived on a farm in Davis Township. She was a resident of Fountain County most of her life and as a small girl had lived in Covington. She married a farmer, George W. Lowe, on October 24, 1888, in Danville, Ill. He preceded her in death in 1941. She was a member of the Methodist Church in Covington, and in later years had been active in the EUB Church at Independence. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors, the Gessie Lodge. Although slightly hampered by failing eyesight, Mrs. Lowe had been an avid reader and kept up on local and world events. Throughout her married life, helping others was her "hobby." When neighbors or relatives had sickness or misfortunes, "Call Minnie" was the message and Minnie always responded. Of Dutch, German, and English extraction, Mrs. Lowe's great grandparents on her mother's side were the Duke and Duchess of Hamilton. In addition to her daughter, Mrs. Lowe is survived by one son, Roy M. Lowe, Ava., Mo., four granddaughters and seven great-grandchildren. One daughter, one son, and nine brothers and sisters preceded her in death. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Attica Chapel, with Rev. Paul Moyer officiating.
