Holly J. Ludwig, 74, of Danville Route 1, a prominent area farmer, died at 4:30 p.m. yesterday (Dec. 6, 1968) of a cerebral hemorrhage on his farm near Collison where he had resided most of his life. Born Nov. 12, 1894, on the Ludwig family farm, he was the son of Jacob V. and Charlotte Stevens Ludwig. He was married Oct. 9, 1925, to Cecile I. Sollars, who survives. Mr. Ludwig attended the Sandbar Grade School, Jubilee College in Peoria and the University of Illinois. He began farming when he was 19. A veteran of World War I, he served with the 82nd Division in France. He was a member of the Potomac American Legion Post 428 and Ludwig-Perry World War I Veterans Organization for which he planned a yearly dinner. He was a member of the Collison Masonic Lodge 714 and Danville Scottish Rite. He received his 50-year pin in 1966. He was a member and had served as a trustee of the Collison Methodist Church. Mr. Ludwig had been a member of the Sandbar-Collison School Board and had served as a district director of the Eastern Illinois Power Cooperative for 15 years. Elected township committeeman for the federal farm program at its beginning in 1933, he was elected to that committee for 30 years. He worked with the United States Department of Agriculture in various posts for 40 years and served as a director of the Vermilion County Farm Bureau for 25 years. He was named honorary state farmer by the Illinois Future Farmers of America in June 1963. His farm was used often by the University of Illinois for demonstrations and experimental work. The farm also was used for visiting foreign farm groups as a typical Illinois farm. Other survivors include four sons, Gene of Fort Worth, Tex., Jake and Jack, both of Fithian, and Gary of Champaign; a daughter, Ann of Palos Heights; a sister, Mrs. D. M. Fowler of Oakwood; 13 grandchildren and a great-grandchild. He also was preceded in death by five brothers, a sister and a grandchild. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Collison United Methodist Church. The Rev. Oliver Kelly will officiate. Burial will be in Emberry Cemetery. The body is at the Lanham Funeral Home in Potomac. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday. Masonic rites will be at 8 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. Military rites will be conducted by the Potomac Harry Carpenter American Legion Post 428. The family has requested that memorials be in the form of donations to the Chaddock Boys School at Quincy.  --typed by Walt W
