Cayuga—Willis E. Swem, 82, Cayuga, died at 2:35 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, 1989 at Wishard Memorial Hospital, Indianapolis.
  He was born Nov. 1, 1906, in Perrysville, the son of Melvin M. and Frances McCurry Swem. He was first married to Carrie Morgan, who preceded him in death Oct. 30, 1970. He later was married to Doris A. Dudley Straw on Nov. 19, 1972 in Cayuga and she survives.

  He was employed with the L&N Railroad for 10 years. He was a janitor for the North Vermillion School Corporation and also was employed with Cayuga Water Department and Coffing Brothers Orchard.

  He was a World War II Air Force veteran and was a member of the Cayuga American Legion Post 263.
  He enjoyed the Cubs and basketball and doing yard work.

  Surviving besides his wife are a son, Jim Dudley, Covington; a daughter, Mrs. Rick (Darlene) Lewis, Cayuga, and one grandson, Cole James Dudley. He was also preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters.

  Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. today (Tuesday) at DeVerter Brothers Funeral Home, Cayuga, with the Rev. Randy Sherwood officiating. Burial will be in Thomas Cemetery, Newport, with military rites by Cayuga American Legion Post. – thanks to s
