William "Bill" Switzer, 33, of Kingman, and a former Veedersburg resident, died of injuries last Saturday morning in the Community Hospital in Williamsport, following an accident in which the truck he was driving smashed into a bridge abutment on U.S. 41 about seven miles north of Veedersburg at Aylesworth. The accident occurred about 10 p.m. Friday night. State police reported that he was driving south on the highway and apparently went to sleep. The truck went off the right side of the road, striking the abutment, crossed the highway, uprooted a tree and rolled down an embankment. Switzer was pinned in the wreckage for more than an hour before workers could extract him. He was born July 5, 1927, the son of Martin and Emma Truman Switzer. He was a graduate of Veedersburg High School. He was a steam fitter by trade and had been engaged in construction work for a number of years. Surviving are the wife, Virginia Wilkins Switzer; four children, Pamela, 14, Billie Lu, 10, and twins Patrick and Debra, age 8, all at home in Kingman; and the parents of Veedersburg. Funeral services were held Monday at the Woodrow Funeral Home in Kingman.

Kingman – William Ben Switzer, 33 of Kingman who was fatally
injured in a truck accident 7 miles south of Attica is survived by the widow,
formerly Virginia Wilkins; four children: Pamela, Billie Lou and twins Debbie
and Pat, all at home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Switzer of Veedersburg;
four sisters, Mitzi and Mrs. Don Eudy of Veedersburg; Mrs. John B. Robinson of
Wingate and Mrs. Dick Barrett of Zionsville and a brother, Martin Jr. Mr. Switzer was born at Veedersburg and
graduated from high schools there. He was married in 1945 and had been employed
as a construction superintendent. He was a member of Kingman Methodist Church.
The accident occurred at 11 pm. Friday and Mr. Switzer died in Community
hospital, Williamsport, early Saturday. – kbz
