John R. Teegarden, son of David and Margaret Teegarden, was born in Wabash Township, Fountain county, Indiana on Dec. 20, 1848 and lived in that township until 13 years old, after which time he had to make his own way among strangers. On the 14th day of December 1864 he enlisted in the union Army under Captin Balton, Co ? 72nd Ind Vol. Mounted Infantry in Wilders Brigade and afterwards he was transfered to the 44th Indiana Infantry and served 9 onths and was discharged at Nashville, Tenn on Sept 14, 1865. He came back to Indiana and went among strangers to work and always prospered. In 1868 he joined the Christian Church and was baptised in the Iroquoise River near Watseka, Ill from which time he has been a constant believer in Christ and his teachings. He was made a Master Mason in the year 1869 and has always been a firm believer in the workings of the order and a supporter of the same. On Dec 10, 1872 he was united in marr to Hulda Deer, d/o Urial Deer and settled on the old Deer Homestead at once after marriage and lived there the rest of hi slife. John R. and Huldah Teegarden had 6 children born to them, four of whom grew to womanhood and manhood. They were Bert who preceded him in death 34 years ago, Noah of Vedersburg, Daisy of Indianpaolis, Emma of Newcastle. The other two, David and Cassius died in infancy. On Nov 29, 1925 his wife departed from this life. She (sic) had to be helped with her work for 37 years and consequently hired women with children and he raised 10 children and educated them in the comon schools. The names of those children are Lizzy Cox; Grace Allen; Jessie Rice; Stella Rice; Homer Allen; Nelli Allen; Mattie Hersberger; Willard Hershberger and Robert Hershberger. He is survived besides his 3 children by 8 grandchildren, 5 greats three sisters and two brothers, Elizaeth Rabb, Redbird MO; Manerva Linebarger of California; lavina Cowgill of Kinman Charley and William Bailey also many nieces, nephews and a host of friends. The deceased departed from this life Spet 28, 1929 at the age of 80 years 9 months and 8 days, in the Methodist hospital at Indianapolis on acount of ruptured appendix. Funeral services were conducted by Rev Tharpe and Rev McHargue Mond aft at the Christian Church with burial in Harveysburg Cem.

John R Teegarden of Kingman who died about 10 days ago at the Methodist hospital in Indianapolis was one of the 10 persons who had attended all 51 of the meetings of the Yeddo Old Settlers the last of which was held last Aug. The 9 memers still living are: Andrew Patterson, Aaron Applegate, George Simmons, IM Simmons, Mrs. Margaret Algood, Clifford Hershberger, John Woodrow, Noah Cleaeland and David Tinder.
