COVINGTON — Jerry L. Townsend, 60, Covington, died at 10:02 a.m. Monday, Oct. 9, 2006 in the I.U. Medical Center, Indianapolis. He was born May 3, 1946 in Danville, Ill., the son of Robert E. and Mary A. (Salts) Townsend. He was first married to Constant I. Williams. He later married Linda L. Graves Aug. 2, 1969 in Sidell, Ill. She survives. He retired in 1999 from the V.A. Illiana Health Care System, Danville, Ill. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and United States Army Reserve. He was a member of the Stringtown Church of God, past president of the Veterans Administration A.F.G.E. Local #1963, Danville Masonic Lodge, Stringtown Bandits and the Midwestern Pikers Fishing Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, mushrooming, auto racing and motorcycles. He was also a former coach in the Covington area. He especially enjoyed his two dogs, Precious and Princess. Survivors, besides the wife, include: his children, Robert (Lori Goodwin) Townsend, Chad (Kelly Burnhert) Townsend, Jeremy Jason (Amy Moudy) Townsend and Noah (Keri Curtrell) Townsend, all of Covington; 11 grandchildren, Tricia Bush, Amanda Cook, Brad Cook, Jessie Wilson, Kali Townsend, Nick McCalister, Blake McCalister, Brennon Cole Townsend, Kobe Alan Townsend, Keragan Reece Townsend and Kennady Faith Townsend; six sisters, Joyce McDonald, Williamsport, Janice (Lavon) Stahl and Alys French, both of Veedersburg, Sandra (Gerald) Lawhorn, Danville, Ill., Lois (Paul) Boswell, Tilton, Ill. and Peggy (Ralph) Hancock, Westville, Ill.; two brothers, Robert Townsend, Danville, Ill. and Richard J. (Denise) Townsend, Georgetown, Ill.; a sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Brad Myrick; two brothers-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Dean Graves and Steve Graves; a special niece, Kim McKinney; and two special nephews, Dean “Little” Graves and Aaron “Bigun” Graves. He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Roberta Powell, Bertha Jean Cadman, Patricia Lape and Jacqueline Clawson; three brothers, James Townsend, Bill Townsend and Fred Townsend; and a nephew, Kevin Powell. Funeral services were at 5 p.m. Thursday in Stringtown Church of God, south of Covington, with Pastor Paul Kirby officiating. Burial was in Kingman Fraternal Cemetery.
