Mrs. Hazel L. Van Deventer, 79, of Veedersburg R2, died at 12:40 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, 1975, at the Carle Memorial Hospital in Urbana. She had been a patient there since June 27th. Born May 30, 1896, in Fountain County, she was the daughter of Thomas C. and Nellie May Allen Erwin. She was a life resident of the county. On Jan. 29, 1929, she was married to Cyrus E. Van Deventer at Rockville. He survives. Othe survivors include a sister, Mrs. Gladys Hesler of Danville, Ill. A sister in law, Mrs. Susan Hagstrum of Buffalo, N.Y. has been in the home regularly for several months during Mrs. Van Deventer’s illness. She was preceded in death by a brother. She was a member of the New Century Church, a past matron of the Order of Eastern Star and a member of the Theta Ne Chi Sorority. Funeral services were held at the New Century Church with Rev. Everett White and Rev. Phillip Edwards, officiating. Burial was in Bonebrake cemetery with Fishero-Dickerson in charge. -– jlr
