James F. Vaughan,  son of James and Nancy Vaughan, was born April 12 1826 in Culpepper Co., Va., being one of a family of  eight children, all of whom have preceded him to the other shore. He came with his parents to Kentucky when quite young, and at the age of about nine years came with his father to their farm near the town of Alamo in Montgomery Co., Ind., where he lived with his parents until he attained his majority. He was married to Sarah Ann Baldwin Feb 27 1842 and moved with his wife to his farm in Fountain Co., Ind.  in 1861 where he resided until his death.   His wife, Sarah Ann, died Nov 5 1864.  On Aug 17 1865 he was united in marriage to Amanda Francis Webb, daughter of Edward and Mariah Webb.  To this union was born nine children, two of whom died in infancy and seven of them now living:  Mary E., Junieh., Rosey A., Uriel, Nettie E., Estella and Pearlie M. Never of rigid health, but a strong will, he followed his chosen avocation, farming for many years, and even in later life had the care and supervision of  his farm. On Dec 27 1906,  he became so feeble that he was compelled to take his bed, and  gradually growing weaker day by day until the morning of Jan 11 1907, when he passed to the land whence no traveler has returned,  being 80 years, 9 months and 29 days old.  His ambition was to care for his family, working untiringly for them. Honest himself he believed and held all men honest until proven otherwise.  Although never becoming a member of any church. He was a firm believer in a supreme being and said during his last sickness that he was ready to die and had nothing to fear. Never complaining, although at times his pain was great, he bore it all with patience. He leaves a wife, six daughters, one son and eleven grandchildren besides a host of relatives and friends to mourn his death.
May his spirit rest in peace is the wish and belief of all.  Funeral services were held Sunday Jan. 13 at 10 a.m. by Rev. McHargue of Kingman after which the body was laid to rest in Centennial Cemetery. – S
