Harry Miller Vawter, 76, retired manager of advertising for the Saturday Evening Post's New York office and former general manager of the U.S. soft coal industry's national education and public relations agency, died Sunday night in Huntington Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted at All Saints Episcopal Church, 132 N. Euclid Ave., at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday. Mr. Vawter, who lived at 881 W. Foothill Blvd., Arcadia, since his business retirement in 1949, had been active in civic work in recent years. He was awarded a special citation for his service on the Arcadia Library Board, and was chairman and consultant for the Homeowners' Property Association of the Upper Rancho area. Born in Ladoga, Ind., Sept. 4, 1889, Mr. Vawter graduated from Morgan Park, Ill., Military Academy, and Ohio Wesleyan University. He has been honored in recent years by the Alpha Epsilon Fraternity and the Masonic Order for 50 year membership. Mrs. Vawter was with the Curtis Publishing Co. for 25 years. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War I. Mr. Vawter's wife died in 1963. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Henry Gammel, of Denver, a son, Harry Vawter Jr., of Madison, N.J., two sisters, Miss Jessie Vawter and Miss Helen Vawter, of Redlands, and six grandchildren.
