Rae E. Verden, 81, Route 2, Covington, died at 4:40 p.m. Friday, July 25, at his residence, apparently of a heart attack.He was born near Marshfield, April 19, 1905, the son of Thomas A. and Bessie Ewen Verden. He had lived in Warren County most of his life and moved to Route 2, Covington 25 years ago. His marriage was in 1938, in Lafayette, to Mary Alice Brasker, who survives.He was employed at CE&I Railroad, Danville, Ill., before retiring in 1968. He later worked in the post office in Covington until 1982.He was a 50-year member of the First Assembly of God, Covington, where he served as deacon and was on the board of trustees for 30 years. He also was church treasurer until he was appointed honorary deacon five years ago.He loved working in his shop, which is where he died, reading his Bible, and having his grandchildren visit him.Surviving, besides his wife, are two sons, James C. Verden, Covington, and the Rev. Fred Verden, Medaryville; one daughter, Mrs. James (Nila) High, Covington; a brother, Merle Verden, Crawfordsville; one sister, Mildred Verden, Marshfield; six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by two sisters and a niece.The body will lie in state one hour prior to funeral service at 1 p.m. today (Tuesday) at the First Assembly of God Church, Covington, with the Revs. Edgar Allen and Larry Lund officiating. Burial will be in West Lebanon Cemetery.Fisher Funeral Home, West Lebanon is in charge of arrangements.
