Newtown - August Verhey, 78, died at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at his home 3 miles north of here on Ind 341. He had been ill 8 years. Mr. Verhey was born in Holland. In 1904, he married Mary Serie. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Attica; and had lived in the Newtown area 19 years. Survivors include his wife; six sons, Lawrence of Romney; Francis, Howard and Ralph of Attica; Bernard of Boswell and Harry of Wingate; 3 daughters, Mrs. Robert Cooper of Veedersburg; Mrs. Christine Pearson of Waynetown and Mrs. Arthur Spence of Attica; a brother, John of Dayton, Ind; a sister, Mrs. Victor McCool of Lafayette; 30 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted by Rev Charles Remackias at 9 a.m. Saturday in St. Francis Xavier Church in Attica. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Friday at DeSutter Funeral Home, Attica.
