ATTICA, Ind. (CNS) – Mrs. Mary Serie Verhey, 85, of Attica Route 1 died at Williamsport Community Hospital at 4:15 p.m. Friday (July 4, 1969) where she had been a patient since June 3. She was born in Attica on Nov. 11, 1883, the daughter of Cornelius and Sabina DeSutter Serie. She married August Verhey on Sept. 20, 1904 in Attica. Mr. Verhey preceded her in death in 1961. Mrs. Verhey was a life resident of Fountain County, living at the Route 1 address since 1941. She attended Pyle School east of Attica and was a member of St. Francis Xavier church of Attica. Survivors include six sons, Lawrence of Romney Route 1, Francis and Howard, both of Attica Route 1, Ralph of Veedersburg, Route 4, Bernard of Boswell Route 1, and Harry of Wingate Route 1; three daughters, Mrs. Louise Cooper of Sterling, Mrs. Christine Pearson of Newtown and Mrs. Larene Spence of Attica Route 1; a brother Frank Serie of Sturgeon, Mich., a sister, Mrs Minnie Mournot of Attica, 31 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. EDT Monday in the St. Francis Xavier Church with the Rev. Charles Remaklus officiating. Burial will be in the St. Francis Xavier cemetery. Attica - Mrs. Mary (Serie) Verhey, 85 of Rt 1, a lifelong resident of this community died Friday at 4:15 p.m. in Community Hospital, Williamsport where she had been a patient since June 3.  She was born in Attica and had lived at her presnet address east of Attica since 1942. She was married in Attica to August W. Verhey in 1904. He was a farmer and died in 1961. Mrs. Verhey attended the Pyle School east of Attica and was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church at Attica. Surviving are six sons: Lawrence of Rt 1, Romney; Francis and Howard of Rt 1, Attica; Ralph of Rt 4, Veedersburg; Bernard of Rt 1, Boswell and Harry Verhey of Rt 1, Wingate; three daughters, Mrs. Louise Cooper of Sterling, Mrs. Christine Pearson of Newtown and Mrs. Laureen Spence of Rt 1, Attica; one brother, Frank Serie of Sturgeon, Mich and one sister, Mrs. Minnie Mournout of Attica.

VERHEY, Mrs. Mary (Serie) - Friends will be received at Sutter Funeral Home, Attica after 4 p.m. Sunday.  Services at 10:30 a.m. Monday in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Attica, the Rev. Charles Remaklus officiating. Interment St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Attica. Surviving are 31 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.
