VEEDERSBURG — Robert L. York, 83, Veedersburg, died at 1:21 p.m. Monday, March 12, 2007 in the emergency room of St. Vincent Williamsport Hospital. He was born April 15, 1923 in St. Bernice, the son of James Asbury and Ella (Higgs) York. He married Deloris Smith July 23, 1942 in Perrysville. She survives. He attended school in Bloomingdale and Veedersburg. He had resided in Veedersburg for the past 60 years. He formerly worked at the Veedersburg Co-op and later for 11 years at Mid-States. He was a member of the Indiana Carpenters Union and was retired in 1985 from the Indiana Carpenters Crawfordsville Local, where he had worked for 17 years. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army, serving during World War II and saw action in the Pacific Theatre. He had attended the Sterling Christian Church and enjoyed hunting, fishing and mushrooming. Survivors, besides the wife, include: two sons, Robert D. York, Veedersburg and Larry G. (Beth) York, West Point; a sister, Madge Shell, Bloomington, Ill.; two grandsons; and a great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and three sisters. Friends may call at Maus Funeral Home, Hillsboro, from 5-8 p.m. Thursday. Services will be in the funeral home at 11 a.m. Friday, with the Rev. Gary Johnson officiating. Burial with military gravesite services will be in Kingman Fraternal Cemetery.
