Alva D. Young, 86, Route 1, Covington, died at 12:50 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, at his home. The unexpected death was due to natural causes. He was born Jan. 7, 1900, in Iuka, Ill., the son of Albert and Mae Belle Swalley Young. He married Auneta Verkes Jan. 30, 1928. She survives. He was a resident of the Crossport area and Wabash Township for 58 years. In early life he worked with the B&O Railroad in Salem and later as a welder and boilermaker for the C&E Railroad in its Danville shops. He farmed until his death, and was a member of the Wabash Township Advisory Board. Surviving, besides his wife, are three sons, William Elmo, Covington; Gene, Route 1, Covington, and Harold William, Fairmount, Ill.; four daughters, Mrs. Mary Geneva Lawless, Georgetown, Ill.; Mrs. Ron (Virginia) Allen, Fort Wayne; Mrs. Charles (Treca Mae) Dunham, Covington, and Mrs. Joan Frank, Tlton, Ill.; 25 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; a brother, and sister, both of Salem, Ill., Leo Young and Bertha Schlosser, and a sister, Edith Schlosser, Decatur, Ill., and several nieces and nephews. A son, three brothers, and a sister preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today (Tuesday) at Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home, Covington, with the Rev. Randy Collins officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. ?? Newspaper hand dated Sept 19, 1952 - The unexpected death of Mrs. Lula A. Snyder 68 came Friday night Sept 19 at 10:30 p.m. at her home west of Hillsboro following a heart ailment. While she had been in declining health she was able to resume her household duties. Funearl service was held from the Hillsboro Christian Church at 2 p.m. Monday conducted by the local pastor, Rev. JT Moore of Indianapolis. Mrs. Lucile Parnell and Mrs. Vera Shade accompanied by Mrs. Maxine Bever sang Blessed Assurance... pal bearesr were 4 nephews, Paul, Donald, and Robert Johns and Dick Nine. Other serving as pall bearers were Carl Epperson and Carl Snyder. Flower beawers.... burial in Rose HIll Cemetery, Hillsboro.
