Mrs. Phoebe Zeigler, a former resident of the Snyder’s Chapel neighborhood and a most highly respected woman, died Thursday morning of last week at the home of her niece, Mrs. Clarence Newman of near Stone Bluff. Mrs. Zeigler had been in declining health the past two years, but only seriously ill for about four days, her demise being due to complications. The funeral service was conducted at the Baptist Church here Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock by Rev. Elmer Fowler, of Dayton, Ohio, a former son of the community and neighbor to the Zeigler family. Interment was made on the family lot at the Masonic Cemetery. The following obituary was handed us for publication:
Phebe Jane (sic) was the 8th child in a family of nine children, seven sons and two daughters, born to Benjamin and Phoebe LaBaw. There were also two sons and two daughters born to a second wife, making a family of 13 children in all. The deceased was born June 5, 1848 on the LaBaw homestead near Stone Bluff.  She departed this life at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Newman, only about one mile from her birthplace, aged 75 years 7 months and 26 days. With the exception of one year spent in Kansas, her entire life was spent in Fountain and Montgomery counties. Rev. Simon Brown (?) To this union were given six children, three sons and three daughters. Robert and Mary died of diphtheria in October 1877, aged 7 and 3 years. Clara became the wife of Charles A. Moore was the mother of one son and one daughter and passed to the life beyond December 11, 1915. The surviving children, Harley, residing near Evansville; Burton, living at Pratt, Kansas and Zeigler homestead near Waynetown. The deceased was left a widow by the death of her husband 40 years ago last Christmas morning. She and the surviving four children remained on the farm northwest of town until the children married and moved to homes of their own. For a period of some 15 years he owned and occupied a home in Veedersburg. Some five years ago she sold her home and has since lived with her children and other relatives. The deceased was able to be about the house up to within a day of her decease. Death came as a welcome relief from the infirmities of old age and disease complications. Her last words were, “Everything is alright now.” Mother Zeigler was a woman of untiring industry, strict business integrity and one whose social and moral life was above reproach. She made a public confession of saving faith when a girl of about 12 years of age and united with the local  Christian Church. After marriage she and her husband became members of the Snyder’s Chapel United Brethren Church and both continued faithful and true until death. She was a faithful wife, a devoted mother, a good neighbor and a useful woman.  Peace to her memory, and rest to the body grown weary and broken from the cares of life. Besides the three children, Mother Zeigler is survived by one brother, John LaBaw of Pomona, California; one half-brother, Alonzo LaBaw of Auburn, Indiana; one half – sister, Mrs. Alice Douglas, living near Stone Bluff and 14 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. – kbz - thanks to the Proctors and their wonderful Waynetown Cemetery obituary database

Waynetown -- Mrs. Phoebe J. Zeigler, 76 well known resident of this vicinity died at the home of her niece, Mrs. Clarence Newman, four miles northwest of Stone Bluff, Thursday evening at 6 o'clock. The deceased had been in poor health for the past two years and had been seriously ill for 4 days. Her death was caused by complications. Mrs. Zeigler was born June 5, 1848 in Fountain County, Indiana near Stone Bluff, the daughter of Benjamin and Phoebe Crane Labaw. On September 14, 1867, she was married to Daniel Zeigler, who preceded her in death 41 yearse ago. She had lived in this vicinity for the greater part of her life and was widely known. She was a member of hte United Brethren Church. She is survived by two sons, Harley and Bert Zeigler, both of Pratt, Kansas and one daughter, Mrs. James Rivers of near Waynetown. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 at the Waynetown Baptist Church. The Rev. Elmer Fowler of Dayton, Ohio will have charge of the services and burial will take place at the Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. - transcribed by kbz
