LAFAYETTE — Stefanie Jaromila Maria (Poihs) Bailiff, 72, died at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, 2002 in the Indiana State Veteran's Home, where she had been a resident for the past nine years. She was born Oct. 23, 1929 in Vienna, Austria, the daughter of Josef and Maria Meyer Poihs. She married Richard D. Bailiff May 8, 1948 in Austria. He preceded in death Nov. 9, 1991. Shortly after their marriage they moved to the Attica area. She grew up in Vienna and graduated from high school and business college while residing there. She worked for Radio Materials Corporation in Attica for several years. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church until 1994 when she moved to West Lafayette and the Church of the Blessed Sacrament and Greater Beneficial Union of Pittsburgh and D.A.N.K., the German American National Congress. Survivors include: a daughter, Irene Maria (Michael O.) Collins, West Lafayette; two brothers, Josef (Erna) Poihs and Otto (Lilly) Poihs, both of Vienna, Austria; and two grandchildren, Trevor Michael Collins and Tasha Maria Collins. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Karl Poihs; and an infant sister, Valeri Poihs. A service of Catholic Mass was at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, West Lafayette, with the Rev. David Douglas officiating. Burial was in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Attica. Maus Funeral Home, Attica, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer Disease Research. – jlr
