Andrew Baker was born in Fountain county, Ind., March 2, 1857, died Nov. 30 1907, aged 48 years, 8 months and 28 days.   He was married to Amanda Lindley Sept. 24 1882 and to this union were born two children, one having died in infancy, leaving the one son, William, who still survives him.   Last May the home was overshadowed by death and his wife was called away to her home beyond, leaving the home lonely and with a vacancy that could never be filled.  This made such a profound impression upon him that since that time he has been more or less despondent.  About the middle of October he was
taken ill with typhoid fever and in spite of all that loving friends and the best medical skill could do, he had to succumb to the inevitable which doeth all things well.   His sickness was long and severe, but he bore it with patience, often expressing his desires to be at rest with the loved ones who had preceded him to the Glory World. He was converted and joined the United Brethren Church in the year 1878 and has, as all admit, lived an honest up right life.   He was a kind and dutiful husband, a faithful and loving father, one who did everything in his power to make the home happy and comfortable.  He was a hard worker, toiling early and late, and believed in the commandment that was given our foreparents which says,  “In the sweat of thy face thou shalt eat bread until thou return to the ground, for out of it wasn’t thou taken,  for dust thou art and to dust thou shalt return.”  He is gone but not forgotten and while we feel a great loss we are comforted in the reflection that our loss is his eternal gain.  The funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. M. McHargue of Sheldon, Ill., from the residence Tuesday afterwhich the remains were interred in the Harveysburg cemetery. -S
