ATTICA, Ind. (CNS)--Aaron Leon Bales, 36, of Scottsburg, a former Attica resident, died at 7:15 p.m. yesterday (Sept. 12, 1968) at the Scott County Hospital. He had been a patient there four weeks. Born Nov. 9, 1931, in Attica, he was the son of Leroy and Grace Lindley Bales. He was married to Mary Wesley, who survives. Mr. Bales had been the managing editor of the Scott Co. Newspapers Inc. for three years and was a former managing editor of the Ledger Tribune. He also had served as managing editor of the Salem Leader for six months and in 1954, as managing editor of the Summitville Sun. He was a graduate of Attica High and attended Ball State Teachers College. He was a member of the Attica Methodist Church, Indiana Firemen's Association and Attica Volunteer Fire Department. He was a former member of the Summitville Lions Club and Salem Rotary Club. Other survivors include a son, Gilbert at home; three daughters, Crystal, Charlotte and Camille, all at home; two brothers, Armand of Dalton, Ill., and Arvin of Williamsport Route 2. He was preceded in death by his parents. Private services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the DeSutter Funeral Home. Henry M. Proffitt will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. The body is at the funeral home. Friends will be received after 2 p.m. Sunday.

ATTICA -- Aaron Leon Bales, 36, former editor of the Ledger Tribune and a native of Attica, died unexpectedly 7:15 p.m. Thursday in the Scott County Hospital, Scottsburg. Bales had been ill four weeks. He underwent surgery and reportedly suffered blood clots on the lungs as a complication following surgery. Exact cause of death was not known. He had been employed as managing editor of Scott County Newspapers, Inc., at the time of his death. He had also been managing editor of the Salem Leader in Salem and the editor of the newspaper at Summittville. He was born in Attica, Nov. 9, 1931, the son of LeRoy C. and Grace Lindley Bales. He was married to the former Mary Wesley. After graduation from Attica High School, he attended Ball State Teachers College. He had been a member of the Attica Methodist Church, Indiana Firemen's Association, Attica Fire Department, Summittville Lions Club, and Salem Rotary Club. Surviving are his wife; a son, Gilbert, 9; three daughters, Crystal, 13, Charlotte, 12, and Camille, 6, all at home; and two brothers, Armand of Dalton, Ill., and Arvin of Rt. 2, Williamsport. Private funeral services were held at the DeSutter Funeral Home here at 10 a.m. Monday. Henry M. Proffitt officiated and burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Attica.
