Julian Bales was born May 27, 1815 and departed this life June 6, 1902 being 88 Years and 9 Days old when the messenger of death came. Grandmother Bales was born in Zena, (sic - Xenia) Green County, Ohio and wax united in marriage to Moses Bales in the year 1833. To them were born 14 children, 10 boys & 4 girls. 5 boys & 2 girls preceded her in death. Uncle Moses Bales departed this life 16 years ago, June 26. A number of years after their marriage they moved to this state and settled in Fountain County on Scott's Prarie and united with the ME church at Steam Corner. After a number of years they sold their farm on the prarie and moved West, then came back and bought the present farm on which the sad deaths of Father & Mother Bales occured. Mother Bales was almost helpless for the past three years, but has been a patient sufferer her constant desire being to make those about her as little toruble as possible. She was unconscious for a few days. She would lay & point upward, as if she was welcoming the Death Angel to come & remove her out of her sufferings. Grandma Bales was a peaceful old lady. Nothing went wrong with her. Everything was all right no matter what was done. When she was so she could sit up, she would read in her bible. She loved singing so well. None knew her but to love her. Dearest mother we must lay thee in the peaceful grave's embrace, but thy memory will be cherished 'til we see thy Heavenly face. There were 26 great grandchildren and 20 grandchildren. The family wants to thank the friends and neighbors for their loving help through the sickness & death of our loved one.
