Veedersburg - Elva Irene Ballah, 95, Veedersburg, died at 3:25 a.m. March 28, 1996 in Culver Hospital, Crawfordsville. She had been ill a short time. She was born in Mellott, June 14, 1900, the daughter of Charles Marion and Rosa Alice McAlister Cooper. Her first marriage was to John Cletis Davis. Her second marriage was to Otis F. Ballah June 14, 1920. He preceded her in death Sept 9, 1959. She was born in the home place at Mellott and lived all her life in Fountain County. Her family was one of the pioneer families to settle in the county. She was a devoted wife, mother and friend, and she will be missed by many. Surviving are four daughters, Eileen Davis Caerwright, South Whitelyl Margie (Cecil) Hollis and Delores Mitchell both of Veedersburg and Gwendolyn (Robert) Frees, Crawfordsville; a son, Harold Robert (Irma) Ballah, Veedersburg; two brothers, Fern Cooper, Mellott and Forrest Cooper, Lakeland, Fla; 16 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren 27 great great grandchileren and a great great great grandchild. She was also preceded in death by a son, Charles F. Ballah; four sisters, 9 brothers, three grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Sterling Christian Church, Veedersburg with Rev. Gary Johnson officiating. Burial in Bonebrake Cemetery, Veedersburg. Dickerson Funeral Home, Veedersburg was in charge of arrangements.
