George Ray Ballard, a prominent resident of Englewood, immediately south of Denver, Colo and a former Veedersburg resident died there last Thursday June 19.  He had been in ill health the last two years but had continued to operate his large insurance business with the assistance of his sons. News of his death came in a telephone message from his brother, Chester of Richmond, Ind to Mrs. JW Burgner along-time friend of Mr. and Mrs. Ballard.  Ray grew up in Veedersburg and was married to Miss Carrie Young, a daughter of the late BB Young and sister of Fred Young of Covington. They lived in Indianapolis for a  few years and then moved to Colorado where they have continued to reside for many years. Their sons, Robert Russell and John grew up there and all live in or near Englewood. Besides Mrs. Ballard and the sons and their families, Mr. Ballard’s nearest surviving relative is the brother, Chester. Mr. Ballard for years was secretary of the Englewood Chamber of Commerce which had a vital part in the growth of that progressive city. Mr. and Mrs. Ballard visited Mr. and Mrs. Burgner and other friends in Veedersburg and other Indiana communities last fall.  Mrs. Ballard’s brother, Home Young, a former Veedersburg boy, lives at Muncie.
