Henry Manson BARKER 91, a farmer in the Grange Corner community most of his life, died at 2 a.m. Friday, June 8, 1962 at Allen Nursing Home, Rockville. He was born April 21, 1871 in Fountain county, son of James and Rachel Lawson Barker. On Dec 18, 1911 he married Mary Etta Hayden in Rockville. He was a member of the Friends Union Church and was at one time supervisor of Sugar Creek Twp roads in Parke Co. He also managed his own farm even though he had been blind since the age of 8. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Fauneal Wood of Rockville and Mrs. Geraldin Holland of Waveland; two sons, Henry of South Bend and Earl of Marshall; 3 grandchildren; two greats and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Sunday in Friends Union Church near Grange Corner with Rev. Arlin Pittman officiating. Music was by Miss Sylvia Burkhart. Pall bearers were Hubert and Robert Delp; Wayne Myers; David Blacketer; Oral Simmons and Joe Thomas. Burial in Wolf Creek Cemetery with Machledt & Servies Funeral home in charge.

Blind farmer lived near Grange Corner

Henry Manson Barker, 91, a farmer in the Grange Corner community most of his life, d. at 2 a.m. Fri. in the Allen Nursing Home in Rockville. he was b. April 21, 1871, in Ft. Co and his parents were James and Rachel Lawson Barker. on Dec 18, 1917, he married Mary Etta Hayden in Rockville. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Friends union Ch near Gr. Corner where the body will lie in state an hour before the service. Friends may calla the Machledt & Servies Fun Home in Waveland after 2 p.m. Sat until 11:30 a.m. Sun. Bur. in Wolf Creek Cemetery.

Henry Manson Barker, 91 years old of the Grange Corner community, died at 2 o'clock Friday at the Allen Nursing Home at Rockville. A retired farmer, Mr. Barker was formerly supervisor of Sugar Creek township roads. Mr. Barker had been blind in one eye since he was 8 years old and totally blind for over 40- years. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Fauneal Wood of Rockville and Mrs. Geraldine Holland of Waveland, two sons, Henry Barker of SOuth Bend and Earl Barker of Marshall; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. A son, Virgil (Doc) Harper of Boswell preceded him in death in December of last year. Services were held Sun at the Friends union Church at Grange Corner; with burial in Wolfe Creek Cemetery.
