Youth near Newtown dies in Chicago hospital

Ill ten days from pneumonia, Joseph Barker, 21, living east of Newtown, student in a radio school in Chicago, died early Friday April 15, 1938, his birthday anniversary, in a Chicago hospital. Pneumonia also caused the death of his father, Charles Barker, two years ago. he was born on a farm near Newtown, April 15, 1917, son of Charles and Halcie Mitchell Barker. He graduated from Wingate High school in 1935. Surviving are the mother, who was at his bedside; a sister, Mrs. Wilma Duff, Lafayette; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Annis Mitchell, Lake View, Michigan. Funeral services were conducted at the Wingate Christian Church in charge of Rev. E. K. Stetson. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
