1964 Joseph Raymond Barkley, age 73, a life time resident of Covington, died at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 6. at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Danville, Ill., where he had been a patient two days. Mr. Barkley, who had been in ill health for sometime, fell backwards into the bath tub and was scalded with hot water at the Dixie Inn, where he roomed, early Sunday morning. Mr. Barkley was born Aug. 9, 1890 in Covington, the son of Joseph and Rhoda Ellen Murray Barkley. He was married in 1910 to Mable Sheets, who preceded him in death in June 1939. He retired in 1955 as a machinist and tool maker at Ypsilanti, Mich. He is survived by six children, Carl (Fred) Barkley of Wayne, Mich., Mrs. Elfleda Yeagy of Inkster, Mich., Mrs. Kathleen Dewlen of Harrodsburg, Mrs. Edith Genung of Wayne, Mich., Richard Barkley of Livonia, Mich., and Mrs. Patricia Nuetzman of Indianapolis; 18 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, one brother and three sisters. Funeral services were held at 1:30 o'clock today, Jan. 8, at the Hegg Funeral Home. The Rev. Edgar Allen, pastor of the First Assembly of God Church, officiated and burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
