Bernice Lauman Baynes, 80, of 2741 N. Salisbury, West Lafayette passed away at Home Hospital Monday, February 14, 1977. She had been a patient there since Dec. 19. She was born in Attica on Mar. 10, 1896. She was raised there but has lived in West Lafayette since 1935. She was married May 20, 1921 in Kankakee, Ill. to William W. Baynes, who passed away July 24, 1949. He was director of Agriculture Division, U. S. Treasury Savings Department. Mrs. Baynes was a graduate of Purdue University and was involved in research at Purdue. She was an army nurse during World War I. A member of Federated Church, W. Lafayette, Purdue Alumni Association, Purdue Woman's Club, Psi Iota Xi Sorority, Kappa Kappa Gamma Honorary Fraternity, Daughter of American Revolution, Tippecanoe Art Association, Home Hospital Auxiliary and volunteer worker. Surviving are one son Frank L. Baynes, of Eugene Or., one daughter, Mrs. Van (Margaret) Heely of Portsmouth, Va., and one sister, Mrs. Ed (Margaret) Holsen of Attica, 10 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.--waw
