John A. Beck was born June 25, 1832 in Montgomery County, Ohio. He was the 11th of a family of 12 children and was the last to depart this life. He joined the Methodist church in early life in Ohio. He came to Illinois about the year 1869. He twice enlisted in the civil (sic) and was twice honorably discharged. Then he came to Montgomery County, Indiana in 1869 and on April 6, 1871 was married to Emily C. Marshall. He leaves a loving wife and two children, Lulu now the wife of Edgar Shoaf of Kingman and Edgar who resides in Yeddo. Also four grandchildren. He removed from Montgomery County to near Yeddo in 1880 and has been a continuous resident there since that time. He was a man who loved his home and family and did everything in his power cause them to be happy. He had been a patient sufferer but never complained. He departed this life Jan 30, 1909 aged 76 years 7 months 5 days. Funeral services were conducted from the residence Monday by Rev JB Newnum after which the remains were laid to rest in the Cemetery at Centennial. - kbz
