(CNS)—Arrangements are still incomplete for Mr. and Mrs. Carter Beckett, residents of Covington Route 2 the past 28 years, who died yesterday in an auto accident on Route 136 at the east edge of Danville. The bodies are at the Hogg Funeral Home in Covington. ( Story on Page 9.) Carter Beckett, 68, was born Aug. 12, 1898, in Warren County, the son of George A. and Nancy Mayme Switzer Beckett. He had been a farmer. Mrs. Mary Brown Beckett, 62, was born June 5, 1904, in Illinois, daughter of William and Mary Brown. They are survived by a daughter, Mrs. Judith Lau of Bloomington, Ind. Mrs. Beckett has a brother, Ralph Brown of Tucson, Ariz., and a sister, Mrs. Marjorie Wilkey of Covington. Mr. Beckett is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Faith Hobart of Columbus, Ohio, and Mrs. Perry Cook of Veedersburg.

(the story referenced above) The truck-car accident yesterday at the east edge of Danville claimed its fourth victim this morning at St. Elizabeth Hospital. Hospital authorities said Carter Beckett, 68, of Covington, Ind. Route 2, died at 7:55 a.m. His wife, Mary, 62, and William Brenner, 72, and his wife, Ruth, 71, of Williamsport, Ind. Route 2, were killed outright in the accident at 12:25 p.m. Mrs. Brenner and Mr. Beckett were sister and brother. The Brenners and Becketts were on their way to attend a funeral in Danville of a relative of Mr. Beckett. Three other men, all occupants of a small tow truck, are "fairly good" today at St. Elizabeth's. They are Jerry Watson, 32, of 716 Chandler; Gary Dodd, 23, of 114 Lakeside Dr., and Raymond Denney, 26, of 1237 Perrysville Road. Mr. Beckett died from a severe skull fracture, a fractured right leg and other injuries, hospital authorities said. City police said the accident occurred on U.S. 136 just west of Daisy Lane. Mr. Brenner was driving his car west with his wife beside him in the front seat and the Becketts riding in the back seat. Watson, police said, was driving east. When he came over the top of a hill, he saw a car in front and applied his brakes. His truck skidded on the slick pavement into the westbound lane where it collided head-on into the Brenner auto.

Covington, Ind. — Services for Mr. and Mrs. Carter Beckett, who died as the result of a truck-car collision on U. S. 136 Thursday afternoon, will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Hegg Funeral Home, with the Rev. Lawrence Tedrow officiating. Burial will be in Gopher Hill Cemetery. Both were born in Assumption and were married on Jan. 8, 1936. Mrs. Beckett was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister. She was a member of Psi Iota Xi and he was a member of the State Line Masonic Lodge. Both were members of the State Line Methodist Church. Friends may call at the funeral home tonight..

Wed. February 1, 1967 - Icy roads and falling snow took their toll of human life Thursday, Jan. 26, when five persons died in the area, one of which will be added to the toll of fatalities in Fountain County. Two married couples are dead as a result of a car-truck collision on icy U.S. 136 at the east edge of Danville, Ill. Mrs. Carter (Mary) Beckett, age 62, resident of Covington Rt. 2, and her husband's brother-in-law and sister, William Brenner, age 72, and his wife, Ruth Brenner, age 71, both residents of Williamsport Rt. 2. William David Brenner was born July 9, 1894, in Warren County, the son of William H. and Grace Biser Brenner. He was a retired farmer. He formerly served as a Warren County Commissioner, chairman of the Farm Bureau, chairman of the Warren County ASCS Committee, worthy patron of the Order of Eastern Star, a 50 year member and master of the Masonic Lodge. He presently was serving as a director of the Warren County Co-op. Survivors include: a sister, Mrs. Ivah Evans of Williamsport Rt. 2, and one brother, H.M. Brenner of Williamsport Rt. 2. His wife, Mrs. Ruth Beckett Brenner, was born April 6, 1895, in Kent Township, Warren County, the daughter of George A. and Mary Switzer Beckett. She was a graduate of the Normal Teachers College at Winona Lake, Ind., and had taught for two years. She was a past matron of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 162, deputy of District 16, and a past president of the Williamsport Woman's Club. Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Faith Hobart of Columbus, Ohio and Mrs. Perry Cook of Veedersburg. Both Mr. and Mrs. Brenner were life residents of Warren County and they were members of the West Lebanon Federated Church. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the West Lebanon Federated Church. The Rev. Elsworth Morack officiated and burial was in the West Lebanon Cemetery. The Crowmer-Siddens Funeral Home of Williamsport was in charge.
