James H. Beckley was born in the State of Maryland (Funkstown) April 8, 1836. He came to this county in 1854. He was united in marriage with Martha (Jane) Shultz October 14, 1858. Six Children were born to them. One died in infancy. He was a faithful soldier in the War of the Rebellion. He was a member of the M.E. Church of Newtown and also a member of the Masonic Fraternity at Newtown. He attained the degree of Master mason September 12, 1879. He departed this life June 22, 1902.
He leaves a widow and five children and other relatives to mourn his departure. He was affectionate to is family, true to his friends and just to his country. And may that peace, which we are taught is to be for the just, be his portion. May God in his tender mercy watch over the widow and the fatherless and give them comfort. It should cause us to rejoice that his trials and tribulations through which we all must pass, is at end; after all death is only the gateway which leads us to a better, bigger and truer future where joy supreme shall reign, where sickness, sorrow and pain shall be known no more.
After a short funeral service held at the home by Rev. O. R. Paxton of the M.E. Church, Monday afternoon at 2:30, the remains were laid to rest by the Masonic Fraternity in the Newtown Cemetery.

On another page there was a card of thanks to family and friends for their kindness, signed by Mrs. Martha Beckley and family.

(There were no notes of members of the family or friends from out of town attending the services in the personal column of the paper).
