Mrs. Ethel N. Bell, 76, whose husband David Earl Bell of Sumner, Lawrence Co., IL, died in World War I (sic - this is false) died here Monday. Mrs. Bell of 1202 So. M St. was born in Waynetown, IN and lived in Tacoma 30 years. Mrs. Bell was a member of The American Association of Retired People; Fern Chapter Order of Eastern Star; Chapter 68, Order of Amaranth; Chapter 8, Widows of World War I; and the Methodist Church in Wenatchee. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Ellis (Mary) Knutsen of Lynnwood, Millie Prestella of Seattle, and Mrs. James (Alice) Nowlin of Kirbyville, TX; a brother James Nixon of Waynetown; 21 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Services for Ethel N. Bell were held in The Valley Chapel, Mountain View Funeral Home 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, September 12, 1973. Rev. Elmer J. Church, officiating. Note: David Earl Bell, grandson of David Frazee Cooper of Fountain Co., enlisted in the Navy, but did not die in the war. He was an orchardist in Wenatchee, WA and a volunteer police office and he died 6 June 1937 while breaking up a fight at the local Elks Club. There were two trials and numerous newspaper articles regarding the death of this well known and loved man.
