GUY BELL

Source: Crawfordsville Journal Review 6 Jun 1931 p 10, typed by Walt W

November 12th, 1874, there came to the home of Stephen and Mary Jane Bell, of Veedersburg, a tiny brown-eyed boy who was given the name of Guy. When a small boy the family moved to Alamo, where the father soon died and Guy assumed the responsibility of helping his mother rear the family of six children. He attended the common schools of Alamo and enjoyed helping in the Sunday school and churches of that place. February 7th, 1905, he united in marriage with Rosa Hughes and welcomed into his home her little son Nile, who he cared for as his own son. To this union was born one daughter, Wilda Leota, who with her mother, mourns his death. Almost his entire manhood has been spent in Veedersburg, where he has engaged in various business enterprises with energy and clear business insight. Twelve years ago he suffered a severe attack of the flu from which he never fully recovered. Three years ago last January he suffered his first stroke. Gradually he grew worse until Sunday morning, June 7, 1931, he peacefully fell asleep at the age of fifty-six years. To his mother, brother, and sisters he was ever a loving, thoughtful son and brother. He was a lover of flowers and pets and to his friends and neighbors will best be remembered as he worked in his gardens, still persisting after ill health had partially paralyzed him. While he will be greatly missed among his neighbors and townsmen, the greatest loss will be in his own home, where as long as health would permit he was a thoughtful and loving husband and a kind and indulgent father, almost worshipping his daughter. Besides his widow, Wilda and Nile, he is survived by one brother, Fred, of Indianapolis; four sisters, Mrs. Thomas Frazier, of Perrysville; Mrs. Ott Kolling, of Waveland; Mrs. Charles Reed, of Columbia City; Miss Maggie Bell, of Veedersburg; three half brothers, three half sisters, and many other relatives.

Card of Thanks We desire to express our heartfelt thanks to friends and neighbors for the kindness and sympathy they showed us during the sickness and death of our beloved one, and also to thank everyone, the Junior class, and the Christian Endeavor for the beautiful floral offering and the Girl Reserves for the beautiful card. Mrs. Rosa Bell, Nile, and Wilda. Brothers and Sisters.
