Hillsboro, Ind. (CNS) - Mrs. Gertie Benefield, 84, of Hillsboro, died at 10 p.m. Sunday (Nov. 7, 1971) at Culver Hospital in Crawfordsville. She had been a patient a day. Born March 30, 1887, in Danville, Ind., she was the daughter of Columbus and Emma Maddox Overman. She was married in Mellott in 1902 to Harry Benefield, who died Dec. 30, 1954. A resident of Hillsboro for many years, she attended the Mellott school. She had been a cook in the hot lunch program at Hillsboro High and was a cook in several Hillsboro restaurants. She was a member of New Liberty Christian Church. Survivors include a son, Walter of Hillsboro; a granddaughter, Mrs. Marilou Manion of Crawfordsville; a brother, William Overman of Hillsboro; three great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter. Services will be at 2 p.m. EST Wednesday at the Crumley-Williams Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bertha Knox officiating. Burial will be in Rockfield Cemetery. Friends will be received at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Tuesday.
