Walter Benefield, 76, of 905 W. Pike St., died at 3:45 p.m. Monday at his home. Mr. Benefield was a former employee of Schloot's Furniture Store and the Fountain County Highway Department. He had resided on a farm southwest of Hillsboro until moving to Crawfordsville in 1974. He was a member of new Liberty Christian Church near Hillsboro. He was born Aug. 27, 1903, at Mellott, a son of Harry L. and Gertie Overman Benefield. On March 22, 1903, he was married to the former Zola Bever of Wallace, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. James (Marilou) Manion of Crawfordsville; three grandchildren, Walter Benefield Jr. of greenwood, Mrs. Linda Manion Haltom of Crawfordsville and Mrs. Joan Glaser of Milwaukee, Wis.; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Thomas Funeral Home at Waynetown with the Rev. Dorman Winger officiating. Burial will be in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
