Independence – William L. Benson, 83, 7958 E. 350 N, Attica (Independence) died at 4 p.m. March 18, 1997 in his residence.  He was born on the family farm north of Independence Dec 15, 1913 the son of David and Susie Petro Benson, Jr.  He married Wilma E. Shamp June 26, 1937 at Attica. She survives.  He had lived in the same house that he was born in all of his life.  He was a graduate of Pine Village HS in 1932.  He had farmed all his life in Warren Township retiring in 1994.  He was a member of the Riverview United Methodist Church, Independence.  He was a member of the Green Hill Masonic Lodge.  He formerly played amateur baseball for the Williamsport Baseball team in the I&I League. He was an avid Purdue sports fan.  Surviving besides his wife are: two daughters, Kath S (Robert) Angelo, Michigan City and Carole L. Perigo, Attica; three brothers, John E. Benson, Lafayette; David Warren and Robert D. Benson both of Independence; a sister, Dorothy Miller, Muncie and four grandchildren: Brad Perigo; Lauren, Ben and Kendra Angelo.  He was preceded in death by three sisters. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in Maus Funeral Home, Attica with the Revs. Denise Davault and William Kehlhofer officiating.  Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Attica.  Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-8 p.m. tonight (Friday) with Masonic memorial services held at 7:30 p.m.  Memorials may be made to the Riverview United Methodist Church or the American Heart Association.
