Covington May 23 – Benjamin W. Bilsland, 77, a life resident of this community, died at his farm home near Covington at 11:30 a.m. Monday. He had been ill for several months.  Mr. Bilsland was born north of Covington July 10, 1866, son of James and Jane White Bilsland. He was married to Flora A. Knapper Oct 6, 1887. She preceded him in death.  He was a member of the Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge and a 15 year member of the Knights of Pythias Lodge. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Edgar Shelby of Covington and a son, J. Freeman Bilsland of Indianapolis; four granddaughters and one great granddaughter; a brother, William E. Bilsland of Covington; two sisters, Mrs. Marion Cooper of Hillsboro and Mrs. Lora Crain of Riceville, Iowa.  The body will remain at the residence until 1 p.m. Wednesday when it will be removed to the Methodist Church to lie in state until the hour of funeral at 2 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. George Beatty of Terre Haute and the Rev. JS White of Covington will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Hope cemetery at Covington with Shelby Funeral Home in charge. – kbz
