Josiah BILSLAND was born in Fountain County, Indiana March 27, 1919 (sic) and was married to Eliza Briney in 1854.  To this union were born four children, two girls, two boys of whom survive.  Mrs. Sarah C. Mesmer of Vermillion and DM Bilsland of Hoxie, Kan.  On Feb 22, 1862, he enlisted in the service of his country in Co D, 63rd Indiana, was honorably discharged May 3, 1865. He served his country 39 months, did lots of service, marched over the mountain weary, footsore, hungry, tired, cold and sleepy. He suffered for 39 years but never complained to the outside world of his aches and pains.  He was again married May 21, 1865 to Manerva Kaiser. To this union were born five children of whom two survive, CA Bilsland and Mrs. Lou Myers of Frankfort. He united with the church in 1866 and was a kind and loving husband. All was done for him that kind hands and loving hearts could do. The family was all at his beside when the end came excepting his son, DM Billsland of Hoxie. “Tis hard to surrender, the friends that we love, but we hope soon to meet them in mansions above. “‘Tis hard to part from them Though Heaven may call, And to be here without them ‘tis harder than all!”
