BLACKFORD, William V.

William V. Blackford, 46, died suddenly at 8:45 am Sunday at his home here. He had been in failing health since last November but had been much improved and was preparing to go fishing when he was fatally stricken. Mr. Blackford was employed by Indiana Bell Telephone Co. 21 years. He was a member of the Christian Church here. He also was a member of the American Legion Post here and served as its commander in 1954 and 1961. He was a past master in the Masonic Lodge here and was president of Local Union CWA at Crawfordsville. Born Aug. 21, 1917 in Fountain County, he was a son of Ariel and Erma Westfall Blackford. He was twice married. He first was married in 1936 to Maxine Brewer. In 1951 he was married to Vivian Richardson. Mr. Blackford attended school here. In 1945 he enlisted in the US Army. Survivors include the widow, his mother, who resides here, two daughter, Mrs. Anita Lyons of Danville, Ill., and Mrs. Pat Hodgkin of Rushvlle; two brothers, Charles and V.C. both of Waynetown, a sister, Mrs. Ruth Donnelly of Waynetown, two grandsons, Brian and Mark Lyons, both of Danville, Ill., and a granddaughter, Miss Tresa Hodgin of Rushville. He was preceded in death by his father, who died Jan 17, 1945. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm Wednesday at Serves Funeral Home here with Rev. Keith Ogier officiating. Interment will be in Masonic Cemetery here. Friends may pay their respects at the funeral home after 7 pm Monday.  - kbz
