Samuel L. Blue, 78, of 1611 E. Fairchild, died at 4:30 p.m. Friday (Feb. 8, 1974) at Lake View Memorial Hospital, where he had been a patient six days. He had been ill several years. Born Sept. 15, 1895, at Portland Arch, Ind., he was the son of Richard and Mary Josephine Hickman Blue. On Dec. 31, 1920, he married Iveen Smith, who survives. A resident of Danville since 1950, he had formerly lived in Covington, Ind. He was a former house mover employed by O. E. Lape. An Army veteran of World War I, he was a member of Jewell Whyte Post 728, Veterans of Foreign Wars. Other survivors include six daughters, Mrs. Betty Hill, Mrs. Dolores Joan Martin, Mrs. Sally Louise Nolan, Mrs. Opal Irene Pavey and Mrs. Sandra K. Curry, all of Danville, and Mrs. Patricia Pavey of Cates, Ind.; a son, William Eugene of Danville; a sister, Mrs. Della Bruce of Danville; 36 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home in Covington, with the Rev. Samuel Smith officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery at Covington, with military graveside rites. Visitation will be at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Sunday.
