COVINGTON, Ind. (CNS) -- Robert Eugene Bodine, 49, a partner in the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home, died at 9:30 a.m. today (Aug. 25, 1969) at his home. He had been ill a year and a half and seriously ill six weeks. Born July 17, 1920 at Covington, he was the son of H. E. and Elizabeth Martin Bodine. On Aug. 3, 1941 he married Louise Chew, who preceded him in death Nov. 10, 1958. A life resident of Covington, he had been a funeral director and associated with Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home since 1947. He retired because of ill health last November. Active in community affairs, he was a member of the Covington United Methodist Church, a past master of Fountain Masonic Lodge No. 60 F&AM at Covington, past chancellor commander of Tidal Lodge No. 36 Knights of Pythias at Covington, the Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis, Zorah Shrine of Terre Haute, past commander of Fulton-Banta Post No. 91 of the American Legion at Covington, Fountain County Old Guard Post No. 2395 Veterans of Foreign Wars at Covington, Danville, Ill. Lodge No. 332 Elks, Danville Gao Grotto, and the Wallace Low 12 Club. Also past district chairman of Piankeshaw Council of Boy Scouts, past president of Covington Lions Club, Western Indiana Shrine Club, Eastern Illinois Shrine Club, Illiana Auto Racing Fans Club, Swords of Bunker Hill, Mount Hope Cemetery Board of Covington, Indiana Funeral Directors Association and National Funeral Directors Association. Mr. Bodine served two terms as Troy Township trustee and as a member of the Covington School Board. Surviving are two sons, David E. of Covington and Peter K. at home; a daughter, Mrs. Betsy Covault of Covington; his father and step-mother, Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Bodine of Greenwood Route 3; two brothers, Martin S. (Bud) of Lakeville, Minn., and James D. of Greenwood Route 3; and a sister, Mrs. Dortha Sue Boltz of Greenwood Route 3. Services will be at 2 p.m. EDT Thursday at Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home with the Rev. George F. Beatty and the Rev. Robert H. Miller officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon and evening.

COVINGTON — Robert Eugene Bodine, 49, part owner of the Bodine and Shelby Funeral Home in Covington, died 9:30 a.m. Monday at his residence at 622 Third Street. He had been in ill health the past year and a half, and seriously ill for six weeks. A life resident of Covington, he had served the area as funeral director since 1947. He had served two terms as Troy Township trustee, had been a member of the Covington School Board and was a member of the Board of Trustees of Mt. Hope Cemetery Association. He was a member of United Methodist Church at Covington, a member and past master of Fountain Lodge No. 60, F&AM, past Chancellor Commander of Tidal Lodge No. 36, Knights of Pythias; Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis, the Zorah Shrine of Terre Haute; member and past president of the Covington Lions Club; past commander of Fulton-Banta Post 291, American Legion; member of Fountain County Old Guard Post 2395, VFW; Danville Lodge No 332, BPOE; past president of Piankeshaw Council, Boy Scouts of America, and a member of its executive board, and the Gao Grotto, Danville, Ill. He also held memberships in Western Indiana Shrine Club, the Eastern Illinois Shrine Club, the Wallace Low 12 Club, Illiana Auto Racing Fans Club, Swords of Bunker Hill, the Indiana Funeral Directors Association and the National Funeral Directors Association. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, from Sept. 1942 to 1945. He was a Pharmacists' Mate First Class and had served in the Pacific. Mr. Bodine was born July 17, 1920, in Covington, the son of H. E. and Elizabeth Martin Bodine. He was married Aug. 3, 1941, to Louise Chew, who preceded him m death on Nov. 10, 1958. Surviving are three children, David E. Bodine and Mrs. Betsy Covault, both of Covington, and Peter K. Bodine, at home. Surviving also are his father and stepmother, Gene and Louise Bodine of Rt. 3, Greenwood; two brothers, Martin S. (Bud) Bodine, Lakeville, Minn.; James D. Bodine, Rt. 3, Greenwood; one sister, Mrs. Dortha Sue Boltz, Rt. 3, Greenwood; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Masonic services were held at the Bodine and Shelby Funeral Home at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Funeral Home with Rev. George F. Beatty and Rev, Robert H. Miller officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
