Thursday, Feb. 27, 1975 -- Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Lakeside Funeral Chapel for Miss Martha Blossom Boord, 89, retired secretary in the Danville superintendent of schools office, who died Tuesday at her residence, 404 E. Dawn. The Rev. Richard Newhall will officiate, and burial will be in Osborn Prairie Cemetery near Stone Bluff, Ind. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. The family has asked that memorial be in the form of contributions to the Heart Fund. County Coroner Gary Ballard ruled death was due to natural causes. Miss Boord formerly had lived for many years at 7 W. Davis. After graduating from business school in Indianapolis, Ind., Miss Boord worked for the Danville superintendent of schools for 20 years, then for the county superintendent for five years, as a secretary. She later was treasurer of the Teacher's Federal Credit Union. She had studied organ in Omaha, Neb., and later with the dean of the music department of the University of Illinois, and served as organist for the Covington Methodist Church for several years. She had organized the Matinee Musical in Covington, and was a charter member of both the Richard Henry Lee chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution and the Book Lovers Club of Covington. She was a member of the Troy Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, and an inactive member of Tri Kappa sorority in Covington. She was a member of St. James United Methodist Church in Danville. Miss Boord was born Feb. 19, 1886, four miles north of Fithian, the daughter of Newton and Sarah Ellen Dice Boord. Survivors include several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and two sisters.
