Funeral services for Mrs. Alice Brandenburg, age 83, 602 Second St., who died at 3:02 a. m. Thursday, July 20, in St. Elizabeth Hospital, Danville, were held Sunday, July 23, at the First Baptist Church. The Rev. Glenn Ray officiated. Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery with the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home in charge. Pallbearers were: Cecil Tallman, Bob Martin, Dick Martin, Henry Martin, Basil Martin and Paul Martin. Mrs. Brandenburg had been hospitalized since July 17. She was born March 4, 1878, in Fountain County, the daughter of Mary E. and Wilson Abernathy Martin. She was first married to James VanLeer, who died in 1938, and then on June 9, 1949, to John Brandenburg, who died May 24, 1959. Mrs. Brandenburg was a member of the First Baptist Church. She had lived in Oklahoma several years, returning to Covington in 1949. Survivors include: a foster son, Seward Van Leer of Clayton; two sisters, Mrs. Bessie Keller and Miss Melissa Smail of Covington; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and three brothers, Charles Martin of Perrysville, Jim Martin of Newkirk, Okla., and Samuel Martin of Danville, Ill.
