LAFAYETTE — Mrs. Blanche Smith Breckweg, 76, a former resident of Hillsboro and Wingate, died Sunday afternoon in her home at Lafayette. She had been in failing health several years. Born Aug. 31, 1883, in Hillsboro where she spent her childhood, Mrs. Breckweg had lived in Lafayette since 1913. She moved here from Wingate where she resided after leaving Hillsboro. Mrs. Breckweg was married twice, first in 1899 to Clifford Smith, who died in 1912. Her second husband was John J. Breckweg. They were married in 1927. He died in 1932. Mrs. Breckweg was a member of the Congress Street Methodist Church in Lafayette and a former member of the Wingate Methodist Church. She had worked as a saleslady at women's apparel shops in Lafayette until her health failed. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. John C. Nagle of near Brookston; a grandson, James, whom she reared in her home; another grandson, two granddaughters, a brother, Harry Davis of Hayward, Calif., and two sisters, Mrs. Will Irvin of Long Beach, Calif., and Mrs. Raymond Parker of Linden. Funeral services have been set for 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Hippensteel Funeral Home at Lafayette. Rev. Earl Heimburger will be the officiating minister. Burial will be at the Greenlawn Cemetery at Wingate. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Tuesday.
