Ura H. Brett of Brazil, age 55, died Thursday morning, February 10, in Wishard Memorial Hospital at Indianapolis. She was born near Covington, May 15, 1927, the daughter of Walter C. and Mamie Hoover Howard. In June of 1926, she married Leland Brett, who survives. He is presently pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Brazil. A 1945 graduate of Covington High School, she graduated from Indiana Central College in 1949 and received her master’s degree from Indiana State University in 1952. She taught school at Wallace, Perrysville, Elmhurst, Illinois, Clay City, Wayne Township in Indianapolis and North Vermillion until retiring in 1981. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Indiana State Teachers Association.

  Also surviving are two sons, Kenton, a senior at Indiana Central University in Indianapolis, and Kelvin of Terre Haute; a sister, Emogene Kenny of Crawfordsville; and four brothers, Gordon Howard of West Lebanon, Othel Howard of Veedersburg, Velma Howard and Ron Howard, both of Covington.

  Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the First United Methodist Church in Brazil with Dr. Alda Carter officiating, assisted by Charles Stanton, Rev. William E. Brett and Hazel McDermont.
