VEEDERSBURG — Luther Charles Brewer, 62, a retired painter and interior decorator, died at 5:35 a.m. today in St. Elizabeth Hospital at Danville, Ill., where he had been taken a few hours earlier. He had been in ill health for several years. He was a member of Covington Baptist Church. He had been employed as a janitor at Covington High School for two years. He retired three years ago because of failing health. Born July 27, 1911, near Covington, he was a son of Barton and Ruby Hasty Brewer. He married Esther Neal Feb. 24, 1940. She survives. He had resided in Covington until moving here in 1966. Other survivors include a son, Jerry of Covington; a daughter, Mrs. Lloyd (Sharon) Brown of Kingman; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Garrison, Mrs. Hortense Emory and Mrs. Virginia Dye; two brothers, Frank and John all of Covington, and five grandchildren. Services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Monday in the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home at Covington with the Rev. Ernest Moore and the Rev. Dale Cadman officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Sunday.
