Mrs. Mary Myrtle Bales, age 82, of Covington, died at 1:15 a. m. Sunday, Oct. 2, at the Hayden Nursing Home, 909 Third St., following an illness of several years. She had been residing with Mrs. Roberta Cripe for the past 12 years. Mrs. Briles was born Aug. 3, 1878 in Vermilion County. She was married in 1903 to Charles W. Briles, who preceded her in death in 1931. She was later married in 1935 to his brother, William Briles, who preceded her in death in 1946. She was a member of the Hopewell Baptist Church, west of Perrysville. Survivors include: a foster daughter, Mrs. Kathleen Trimble of Danville; 10 step-children; two grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by an infant daughter and two sisters. Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the Hegg Fureral Home here. The Rev. Thomas Thurman, pastor of the Second Church of Christ in Danville, Ill., officiated and burial was in the Hopewell Cemetery, west of Perrysville. Serving as pallbearers were: Charles Clark, Sam Briles, Don Maltsberger, George Metzger, Willis Sare, Jr., and Cleve Hanna.
