William Briner, son of Peter and Catherine Briner, was born November 26, 1828, in Fountain county; near Veedersburg, Indiana. He united with the United Brethren church in 1876 and lived in Christian life until our Blessed Savior took him to a better home in heaven January 11, 1900, aged 71 years, 1 month and 15 days. Mr. Briner has been married three times. His first wife was Mary Ann Stanford, to whom he was married January 19, 1853; two children were born to them one of whom is living. She died September 9, 1857. He was again married July 21, 1859, to Sarah Ann Grelsinger. Two children were born to this union one of whom survives. She died February 2, 1864 He was married to Martha Ann Robinson February 2, 1865. To this union nine children were born, five of whom with his wife survive him. Mr. Briner was a good citizen; he lived an honorable and just life; his acts were such as to make the world better by his having been a part of it, and his children through that good father and mother’s teachings are among the best and most highly respected citizens of our county. If he had an enemy it was their own making and the entire county deeply sympathizes with the family in their sad loss. The funeral was held Saturday, conducted by Rev. Schofield, in the Christian church at Sterling. Interment at Rockfield cemetery. – jlr
