James W. Brissey, age 82, oldest member of the Fountain County Bar Association died Tuesday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Margaret Jackson in Walkerton where he had made his home since last August. Mr Brissey had been in failing health for the past year. Active in the practice of law, Mr. Brissey had served two terms as prosecuting attorney for the judicial district then composed of Fountain, Warren and Benton counties. Previously, he had served a term as superintendent of schools in Fountain County.  Mr. Brissey also practiced law in Lake County where he served four years as city attorney at East Chicago and he was also deputy prosecuting attorney for a term in Lake County.  Born in Owen County, Kentucky, Oct 7, 1861, Mr. Brissey was the son of James Milton and Sarah Osborn Brissey. When he was one year old, his parents removed from Kentucky to Fountain County and lived on a farm near Covington.  He was married to Anna Martin of Attica in 1889, she dying in 1914. He remarried later and his second wife preceded him in death a few years ago. Mr. Brissey was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Knights of Pythias and he also held membership in the Presbyterian Church in Covington.  In addition to the daughter at whose home he died he is survived by another daughter, Miss Ruth Ellen Brissey of Walkerton. He also leaves a brother, John P. Brissey an attorney in Covington and sister, Mrs. Ellen Redenbaugh, living at Sterling. The body was taken to the Crumley Funeral Home in Covington where services in his memory were held at 2 o’clock Friday afternoon in charge of Rev. OW McGaughey at Veedersburg. Burial was made at Mt. Hope cemetery near Covington.  Members of the Fountain County Bar association served as pall bearers at the services. - kbz

Covington, Ind Feb 18 - Funeral services were held today for James W. Brissey, 82, dean of the Fountain County Bar Association who died Tuesday at Walkerton.  He was a former prosecuting attorney of the Fountain-Warren-Benton judicial circuit and later served Lake County in the same capacity.

Covington, Feb 18 - Services were held here today for James Brissey, 82, oldest member of Fountain County bar who died Tuesday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Margaret Jackson in Walkerton.  Members of the local bar served as pallbearers and burial was in Mt. Hope cemetery.  A native of Owen County, Kentucky, Mr. Brissey had resided in Indiana since he was one year old. He served one term as superintendent of Fountain County Schools and then was active for many years in the practice of law. For two terms he was prosecutor of the judicial district then composed of Fountain, Warren and Benton counties.  Later he became a leader of the legal profession in Lake County, served four years as city attorney in East Chicago and also as prosecutor of Lake County.  Surviving are the daughter; a brother, John Brissey, local attorney and sister, Mrs. Ellen Redenbaught of Sterling.
